JEFF HANNA: THE RHYTHM INLET
Bells, woodblocks, claves, guiros (scrapers), shakers of all kinds, and drums—all of these make excellent additions to ukulele ensemble playing and recordings. Jeff Hanna of the Nokomis percussion studio The Rhythm Inlet will teach techniques and basic rhythms to get the best sounds from these important voices for accompanying your ukulele performances.

CONCERT IN THE PARK: THE WHITEOUTS
At the Portland Ukulelefest in 2007, Joel Eckhaus and Ralph Shaw learned that they shared a special fondness for the classic ensemble, The Ink Spots. They began covering Ink Spots songs, performing as "The Whiteouts,” including vaudeville and music hall novelties, jazz and swing standards, rock 'n roll classics, and a healthy dose of humor. Together, their voices, instruments, personalities, and wit combine in ways that exceed the sum of their parts and provide an evening of entertainment that could keep you smiling for days.

Joel and Ralph met as performers and teachers at a succession of ukulele festivals around the US and Canada. The two tall, middle-aged, white guys, from opposite sides of the continent, discovered a mutual interest in the popular music of the 1920s-50s, and each was immersed in the music of two of history's greatest uke players, Roy Smeck and George Formby.

CONCERT IN THE PARK: SAZERAC

Singer/songwriter Sazerac hails from New Orleans where he performs with his band, The Genial Orleaneans. Sazerac has entertained audiences at a number of prominent ukulele festivals, including the New York Ukefest, with his unique brand of droll and absurdist wit. Here in Venice, he opens for the Whiteouts, accompanied by bassist Steve Boisen of The Barnkickers.

Sazerac created and wrote for "The Bakelite Radio Theater," a weekly program on WTIX-AM in New Orleans, patterned on radio comedies of the 1930s. He is a huge fan of the circus.
